"It took 10 years to get a private permit to kayak the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon trip involves 21 days of kayaking over 200 miles of the largest whitewater in North America. It also involves loading and unloading rafts everyday and gorgeous, incredible, hot, steep hikes (strictly for recreation when not abusing oneself on the river). I am a Mom of 2 young children, who also had a had a fairly ugly C-section about 1 year before this kayaking/hiking extravaganza, so I purchased the MrTrainer videos to help me sway the balance of luck in my direction. I started training 8 weeks after my C-section. I worked up slowly to a reasonable pace and then started to pour on the steam about 5 months before I left for the Canyon. There is no good, detailed source of information about training off-water for kayaking. Mr. Trainer proceeded to become educated on the sport and develop a training regime to address the demands of the sport. It included specific torso-twisting, incline-bench situps with a pole behind the neck to strengthen abdominal muscles and develop smooth movements essential to kayaking. His training design included whole body lifting that strengthened legs, abs and upper body. He did not make the rookie mistake of believing kayaking to be all upper body. He also stressed maintaining a vigorous cardiovascular workout to maintain whole-body conditioning. By the time the trip rolled around I felt as though Mr. Trainer had really made significant strides towards preparing me for the trip. The excellent conditioning paid off and the trip was incredible. Thanks Mr. Trainer, I really owe you for that!"
