No Sweat

Did you know that sweating is not the best indicator of exercise
intensity?

Due to a variety of factors, largely genetic, people sweat differently.
We need to look at our heart rate and/or our perceived level of exertion
for an accurate measurement of intensity.

============= DOC TALK ====================
Obesity--Part 3

In the first two parts of this series I discussed theories behind
excessive weight gain, and improper food choices. In this part I'll
discuss weight loss.

This is obviously a difficult problem, and a multimillion dollar industry
exists for the 'quick fix.' The old adage, "If it's too good to be true,
it probably is" was made for weight loss scams. Does anyone, really deep
down, believe the answer is in a pill or bottle? If so, don't bother
reading any further--this isn't for you.

I think I've clearly laid out that excessive calories (and poor food
choices), coupled with sedentary lifestyles leads to obesity. Well, guess
what? The opposite is true for long-term weight loss. Proper nutrition,
weight training, and aerobic exercise are the cornerstones to losing
weight. How many people in my practice do I think are up to the
challenge? Very few--that's why, year after year, at their physicals, the
'tale of the tape' continues to grow higher.

It really takes a metamorphosis of lifestyle. You can't exist in the same
sphere of the universe as most Americans and expect to change your body.
You need to be above that--it's what got you overweight in the first
place. Give yourself the 'saber-tooth tiger test': If, unlike our
ancestors, you couldn't run, jump, scramble, crawl or fight your way to
escape an animal, you need to change.

I'm not criticizing those with physical illnesses or challenges, but if
it's simply deconditioning and being overweight that's in your way, then
conquer them! Feed your body with proper nutrition, dust off the running
shoes, and let the MrTrainer video series show you how to perform
exercises properly.

Good Luck--you can do it!
