============= TRAINER'S CORNER ===============
Leg Extension

This is a great isolation exercise for the quadriceps on the front of your
thigh.  Although it is a useful exercise, especially when done one leg at
a time to help balance your right and left thighs, it is mechanically
rough on the knee joint if too much weight is used.

Bottom line:  Don't go heavy using the leg extension machine!  Keep the
reps up around 12-20 per set.

Health Maintenance

Many people are becoming interested in regular health maintenance.  By age
50, men and women should have regular, yearly physicals.  Younger women
should receive a "well-woman" exam and Pap smear yearly, or sooner if
problems are identified.  Young men need to be counseled on testicular
self exam, and general health principles.

A baseline blood cholesterol test is recommended in most people, and
followed periodically if high, or if medication is started.

For men, annual prostate screening generally starts at age 50, as does
colon cancer screening.  Testing the stool for blood and visualizing the
colon with a sigmoidoscope, are standard recommendations.

For women, annual breast screening with physical exam and mammography
generally starts in their forties, and yearly at age 50.  Colon cancer
screening is also recommended at age 50.

Talk with your doctor about other issues such as immunization and
age-specific preventive medicine.

Advice on regular exercise and sound nutrition should also be part of the
health maintenance visit.
